Title: Canonical amalgamation and universal automorphism groups

Abstract

A Fraïssé structure M has a universal automorphism group if for each structure A embeddable in M, there exists a group embedding Aut(A) into Aut(M). Many standard examples of Fraïssé structures have universal automorphism groups: for example, all structures with free amalgamation. However, some very well-known Fraïssé structures do not. We will discuss several new results in this area, as well as the links between the existence of a universal automorphism group and certain notions of canonical amalgamation. This is joint work with A. Kwiatkowska and J. Winkel.
